Welcome to the Summer 2025 edition of Fiat Lux! This newsletter is the first of four you’ll receive this year, bringing you inspiring stories from our community, College news, and upcoming events.
Since joining Emmanuel in July last year, I have had the pleasure of being warmly welcomed into this wonderful community by residents, alumni, and College staff. Over the years, I have visited many of the Colleges across UQ’s beautiful grounds, and what has stood out to me the most about Emmanuel is its strong sense of community. Speaking with both residents and alumni, it’s clear that this remains at the heart of the Emmanuel College experience.
As we revitalise the College’s alumni program, I’m excited for what lies ahead. We’re kicking off the year with Brisbane Alumni Connect on Thursday, 27 March, and I hope to see many of you there. My vision is to build a well-connected alumni network through regular events, mentoring opportunities, and internships — fostering lifelong ties between residents and alumni.
This year is especially meaningful as we celebrate 50 Years of Women at Emmanuel. As part of the celebrations, we invite you to join us at the Half a Century of Her Story Cocktail Party, a special event honouring the incredible contributions of Emmanuel women. You can also show your Blue Dog pride by ordering a limited-edition 50 Years of Women jersey—a perfect keepsake to mark this special milestone. Proceeds from the cocktail party and jersey sales will support two female-identifying scholarships: the Women’s Impact and Innovation Fund and the Young Women Leaders Scholarship.
In my short time here, one of the greatest joys of my role has been hearing your stories—tales of lifelong friendships, great loves, and the occasional bit of mischief along the way. If you’d like to connect, I’d love to hear your Emmanuel story.
Looking forward to connecting with you.
