Congrats to Emmanuel College Highlanders

What a fantastic week for the Emmanuel College Highlanders at the University of Queensland. The band were awarded second place in Grade 3 (with only two points separating them from the winners, Foundation New Zealand Youth Pipe Band) at the 2018 Australian Pipe Band Championships held at Brisbane Boys’ College on Saturday. This follows on from their Grade 3 first place win at the 2018 Maclean Highland Gathering on 31 March, which marked a year from their first competition as a band.

Originally founded at Emmanuel College in 1998, the band is a merger of two of Queensland’s most recognised pipe bands — the University of Queensland Pipe Band at Emmanuel College and the Queensland Highlanders Pipe Band. The band’s fantastic start to the competition year is a testament to their dedication and musicianship — Meal do naidheachd!

The Emmanuel College Highlanders performs regularly at a variety of events in south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales, proudly representing the College and the University, with the next big event the Australian Celtic Festival at Glen Innes on the weekend of 5-6 May 2018. To keep up-to-date with the band’s performance schedule, visit the Emmanuel College Highlanders website, like them on Facebook  or follow them on Instagram.
