Welcome to Emmanuel College!

Eligibility

Before you start your application, please read our Admissions Policy to confirm you are eligible for a place at Emmanuel.

Please note that Emmanuel College has a UQ-centred mission and is bound to offer membership to students studying at The University of Queensland.

Prepare your documentation

There's a few documents we need you to submit as part of your application. These include:

Proof of Age Card - one copy of your passport/birth certificate/ driver's licence or equivalent. School ID cards are not accepted.
Photo - one recent portrait photograph including your head and shoulders

Please make sure you have these documents ready to go before you start your application!

Prepare your video

Prepare a 2-minute video explaining why you’d like to join Emmanuel College and why you think you’d be a great fit for our community. To help you get started, our Dean of Students, Dr Patrick Walsh, has some tips about what to include.

Remember we asked you to gather your photo, ID and prepare a video? This is where you upload them!

For your application video, please upload to YouTube and mark it as unlisted. By making your video unlisted, only those with the link can view it, so don't worry - your friends, teachers, sports coaches, cousins or grandparents won't be able to see it - just us! Once it's uploaded, please paste the unlisted video link in the text box.

Please upload a recent portrait style photograph of yourself in JPEG file format only. If the file size is too big, a screenshot of the photo might work better!

Visit our campus

Visiting our campus is the best way to see our community in action! There are a number of opportunities for you to visit our campus before Round 1 applications close.

We are hosting an Open House on Sunday 19 April from 9am until 12pm where you can take a guided tour of our campus with one of our student ambassadors, meet our staff and learn more about life at Emmanuel.

Can I apply to Emmanuel before I receive my university offer?

You can apply to Emmanuel before you receive your university offer. If Emmanuel is your first preference, we encourage you to lodge your application in our first offer round to give yourself the best chance of securing a place at Emmanuel.

When will I hear back about the outcome of my application?

Our timeframes are available on our website. You can expect to hear from us on or before these dates.

What do you look for in an applicant?

Our goal is to achieve a diverse cohort of students that reflects society in general: a community of different genders, cultures and home geographies, educational and socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual identities, ethnicities and races, extracurricular abilities and more. Please see our Admissions Policy for more information.

When can I apply?

We accept new applications in two rounds. The first opens in March and closes in June. The second opens in August and closes in September. If you are applying for entry in Semester 2 of this year (Mid-Year Entry), different dates may apply. See our website for dates and deadlines.

I am on the waitlist, when will I hear back?

Thank you for your patience. We have your details on file and we will keep you updated by email or phone.

I am planning to enrol in UQ College for a foundation or tertiary preparation program. Can I apply to Emmanuel?

No. Emmanuel students must be enrolled in at minimum a bachelor's degree program at the commencement of their residential or associate term.

I am studying a diploma at university. Can I apply to Emmanuel?

No. Emmanuel students must be enrolled in at minimum a bachelor's degree program at the commencement of their residential or associate term.

I am taking the high school diploma pathway. Can I apply to Emmanuel?

You are eligible to apply to Emmanuel if you will be enrolled in at minimum a bachelor's degree program at the commencement of their residential or associate term.

I am already studying at university. Can I apply to Emmanuel?

Yes, but please note our applicant eligibility guidelines for new undergraduate students. Please see our Admissions Policy for more information.

Is there parking at Emmanuel?

Due to limited availability, we do not offer parking spaces to first year students unless there are extenuating circumstances. There is metered and unmetered street parking as well as parking at UQ.

Do you offer campus tours?

There are multiple opportunities to visit us. We hold an Open House event in April and take part in UQ Open Day in August. See our website for dates. We also run weekly campus tours at select times of the year. You can see times and dates on our website, along with instructions on how to book your tour.

What happens if I don't receive an offer to UQ?

Emmanuel College has a UQ-centred mission and is bound to offer membership to students studying at The University of Queensland. If you have received a conditional offer to Emmanuel College (before QTAC offers) and then do not take up a place of study at UQ, your offer to College may be withdrawn. Please see our Admissions Policy for more information.

My sibling/parent/grandparent went to Emmanuel College. Is it worth mentioning this in my application?

Yes. Applicants who have a direct alumni connection to the College (sibling; parent; grandparent) are most welcome to apply and will be guaranteed an interview.

I attend a public high school. Is this worth mentioning in my application?

Yes. Applicants who have graduated or are expecting to graduate from a public high school are most welcome to apply and will be guaranteed an interview.

Do I need to provide my school report cards or Internal Assessment results when applying to Emmanuel?

No. All offers to Emmanuel College are conditional on receiving and accepting an offer to a bachelor’s degree program at UQ. If you have satisfied UQ’s academic requirements for enrolling in a program, then you have satisfied our requirements too.

Do I need to provide my ATAR or IB result when applying?

If you have already finished high school, we may ask for evidence of your IB or ATAR result (or equivalent) at the time of your application. We may also ask for evidence of your university offer from The University of Queensland at the time of your application. We will contact you directly if we need these details to progress your application.
