Your days at Emmanuel College will be filled with activities that teach you new skills, encourage you to have a go, help you meet new friends and provide you with a wonderful balance to your life at college.
“When I’m at the lectern debating, everyone’s there cheering me on. And when Emmanuel is on the sports field, I’m on the sidelines cheering our team on. We’re a community that shows up for each other and celebrates every achievement.”
Led by students, for students, the Emmanuel College Students’ Club (ECSC Inc.) is the beating heart of day-to-day life on and off campus.
With a proud 100-year history, the club drives a full calendar of social, inter-college sport and cultural events, and offers community service and leadership opportunities.
Run by an elected committee and shaped by the ideas and energy of its 360 members (hey, that’s you!), the club encourages students to get involved, take the lead and make a purposeful contribution to college life.
The work of the ECSC embodies the community spirit that defines Emmanuel College, inspiring you to explore new interests, make new friendships and be part of an inclusive and dynamic community.
From the iconic Emmanuel Ball and At Home—a cherished tradition that dates back to the 1920s—to the Scottish-themed Highland Games, Oktoberfest and Chawaiin Sundays, the ECSC delivers an awesome calendar of unforgettable social events.
Outside of our own campus, we rarely miss the chance to join the buzz at events held by our neighbouring colleges, making new friends and memories along the way.
The Inter-College Competition (ICC) brings together students from the ten UQ residential colleges to take part in competitive but friendly sporting and cultural events.
A much-loved part of college life, these tournament-style games—with cheering crowds and plenty of spirit—are designed around fun, connection and community building.
Emmanuel College is proudly competitive, having won the Old Collegians’ Cup for sport and the Sir Zelman Cowan Cultural Cup in recent years, alongside accolades for ICC Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year and the ICC Spirit Award.

Sport has long been woven into the fabric of life at Emmanuel College. It’s where friendships are forged, teamwork is built and the college spirit comes alive.
We field teams in 13 male and 12 female sports and we have a proud reputation for turning up in big numbers to support our players.
Sport at Emmanuel offers you the chance to challenge yourself, support your health and wellbeing, create lasting memories and be part of a rich tradition of sporting heritage.
From appearing in a play or singing in the choir to debating other colleges or mastering chess, we provide you with a safe space to express yourself and celebrate the creative side of your personality.
Our cultural activities and events are all about having a go and getting the best from yourself. They bring colour and energy to college life and are a brilliant way to have fun and be part of something bigger.
Each year, talented students bring the stage alive in our dazzling Theatre Revue, a wholly student-produced, directed and performed event.
A highlight of the cultural calendar, the show features original musical productions and beloved classics that spotlight the creativity, passion and teamwork of our students.
Backstage is a dedicated crew of skilful students who take charge of set design, costumes, sound and lighting.
Theatre Revue is truly emblematic of the supportive and co-operative spirit of Emmanuel College.

“My wing is one of the largest and people like keeping their door open, which has really helped me make friends and connections. It’s just so easy to walk down the hall and pop into people’s rooms and say hi.”
College life isn’t just about the big events … it’s as much about the spontaneous moments that make up every day.
Chatting in a wing corridor, sharing a meal in the dining hall, kicking a ball in the Quad, prepping for a night out or playing pool in the common room are simple ways that bonds are formed and memories are made.
These are the incidental moments that set apart the college experience.
Through various events and ceremonies, we make a sustained effort to acknowledge students who make exceptional contributions to the community.
Our signature event and a cherished tradition is the Bannockburn Dinner, which honours the longstanding relationship between Emmanuel College and the Society of St Andrew of Scotland Queensland. The dinner recognises exemplary service, leadership and commitment to giving back by our students across community, sporting and cultural activities.

Leading others can be a wonderful way to build upon your strengths and values. At Emmanuel College, your opportunity to lead comes in many forms.
The student-elected committee of the Emmanuel College Students’ Club guides and represents the community, while senior students can become Wing Leaders and are trained to provide support and guidance to their fellow residents.
Elsewhere, community service, cultural events, IT support, inclusion and belonging, fundraising and welcoming new students are activities that offer exposure to leadership opportunities.
