About this scholarship
Established by Dr Brian Maher and created in 2011 this scholarship is awarded in memory of Mr Mark McKay who spent five years at Emmanuel from 1974–1979.
A Students’ Club President and Collegian of the Year, Mark was killed in a car accident in 1988. He was a practising solicitor in Mackay, his home town, where he was on the board of Lifeline, a committee member of the Marriage Guidance Council and was the local branch President of the Liberal Party. He instituted the first Law Week in Mackay, where free legal advice booths were provided to the public. Scholarship recipients are expected to correspond with their benefactors at least twice a year.

- are a returning law resident in your second year of study (or above)
Selection criteria
- your previous academic results at tertiary level
Rules
Emmanuel College scholarships are subject to the following conditions:
- full time enrolment at a program at The University of Queensland or other Brisbane-based university
- a full year residential offer from Emmanuel College
- an applicant’s agreement to the Residential Terms and Conditions, which form part of the residential offer, including maintaining a satisfactory General Point Average (GPA)
- an applicant’s agreement to abide by the contents of the Student Handbook
All scholarships are awarded on an annual basis for the duration of an applicant’s academic year; and are not awarded by single semester.
