“I always wanted to go into teaching. I had a lot of inspirational teachers when I was younger and I want to be able to do that for other students. The bursary allows me to come to college and enjoy every day here.”
The college’s financial support commonly unlocks opportunities that a student may not have otherwise been able to pursue.
There are two main ways new and returning students can receive financial support from the college: scholarships and bursaries. Each has a distinct eligibility requirement. In addition to these, students may also be eligible for Emmanuel-specific financial aid offered through UQ.
A scholarship is awarded on academic merit, sporting excellence or cultural achievements, whereas a bursary considers a student’s economic barriers to beginning or remaining at college. You are welcome to apply both for scholarships and bursaries.
Financial support to attend Emmanuel College for students from rural, regional or remote areas, who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander or are part of the UQ Young Achievers Program is also available through the UQ Residential Scholarships Scheme. Students experiencing financial hardship and who meet eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply.

Diversity is a hallmark of the student population at Emmanuel College, and we place great worth on equitable access to higher education for young adults from all backgrounds.
Emmanuel College has partnered with The University of Queensland to provide three additional opportunities for support, over and above what you will see available on our website, for domestic undergraduate students experiencing financial hardship. Applications close February 2026 and are made through the scholarships page on the UQ website.
