Non-Residential Member Program

for students studying at The University of Queensland

Emmanuel College invites enrolments in our Non-Residential Member Program (formerly known as the Associate Member Program). This program delivers some key aspects of the College experience for first-year students of The University of Queensland who, although they are not living in College, are interested in the academic, networking, mentoring and social aspects of Emmanuel College life. If you are have previously resided at Emmanuel College and are interested in becoming a Non-Residential Member, please complete the application form for previous residents.

The Non-Residential Member Program offers the following benefits:

  • Orientation Week Program (first semester) (extra payment required)
    First-year Non-Residential Members can live in and participate in all activities provided, allowing members to bond with the College community. An accommodation and activity payment is required.
  • Academic Centre and Gill Student Centre
    State-of-the-art learning and quiet study areas.
  • College Tutorials
    Small group tutorials (usually of 3–6 students) assist students to consolidate learning in addition to the University tutorial program. First-year students must attend one one-hour tutorial per week.
  • Academic Mentoring and Pastoral Care
    During office hours, staff are on hand to provide support in whatever form it may be required.
  • Dining Hall Access and Meals
    Non-Residential Members are welcome to join their College friends for lunches in the Dining Hall, as well as for dinner on the nights they attend tutorials and for formal dinners. Non-Residential Members are also welcome to use the Dining Hall for other meals for an additional fee per meal.
  • Attendance at College Visiting Scholar Events
    An opportunity to meet, converse with and listen to academic presentations.
  • Chapel
    A Chapel service is held every Tuesday night at 7.30 pm.
  • Student Centre
    The Student Centre is available to Non-Residential Members between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm each day. This facility also provides a pool table and a small gym.
  • Bagpipe and Drum Lessons
    Non-Residential Members are welcome to join the Emmanuel College Highlanders at The University of Queensland pipe band.
  • Music Practise Rooms
    The College’s music practise rooms are equipped with pianos and a drum kit.
  • UQ Sport Gym Membership (extra payment required)
    Students can elect to purchase a UQ Sport gym membership through the College at a significantly reduced rate.
  • Lockers
    Lockers are provided for Non-Residential Members.
  • Clubs and Societies
    Non-Residential Members are encouraged to join the various clubs and societies the College provides.
  • Cultural Activities
    Non-Residential Members can participate in cultural activities, such as musical and theatrical performances.
  • Community Service
    Emmanuel College encourages community service and the Students’ Club runs many community service activities and projects throughout the year.
  • Academic Prizes and Awards on Academic Awards Night
    Non-Residential Members who achieve a high academic standard are eligible to receive academic awards.
