About this scholarship

Established by Dr Brian Maher and created in 2011 this scholarship is awarded in memory of Mr Mark McKay who spent five years at Emmanuel from 1974–1979.

A Students’ Club President and Collegian of the Year, Mark was killed in a car accident in 1988. He was a practising solicitor in Mackay, his home town, where he was on the board of Lifeline, a committee member of the Marriage Guidance Council and was the local branch President of the Liberal Party. He instituted the first Law Week in Mackay, where free legal advice booths were provided to the public. Scholarship recipients are expected to correspond with their benefactors at least twice a year.
