One Act Play – Emmanuel steals the show

When asked if I’d take on the role as One Act Play Convenor late last year, I knew I would be in for a lot of hard work, patience and dedication. With the help of a wickedly talented cast of five, we were able to secure a 1st place victory after a five-year drought.

The most challenging part of convening One Act Play was finding a script that was suitable and up to competition standards. Thankfully, I discovered “All By Myself” by Robert Scott, an outstanding and engaging comedy about a man stranded on an island for seven long years, who is shocked to discover he’s not — and never has been — alone. Since we have so much comedic talent at Emmanuel College, this play was perfect — but a play is nothing without a cast.

I want to express my immense gratitude to the wonderfully talented Connor Wright, Tammy Mellish, Jack Ramaswamy and Islwyn Wilson for their brilliant performances and dedication to the play. From our first rehearsal to the night of the competition, it was very exciting to see the development of each cast member and the great rapport we had. Thanks also to our friends and fellow Blue Dogs for coming along and supporting us on the competition night.

One Act Play was another great chapter in Emmanuel College’s cultural pursuits for 2017. While we’re currently sitting on top of the Cultural Cup standings, we’re not resting on our laurels. Dancefest on 11 October will decide which college takes home the 2017 ICC Cultural Cup.
