Joining the Emmanuel College community in the last year of the “old” College at Wickham Terrace, Bob moved to St Lucia in 1956 in his second year of Engineering. During his College years, he represented the College in rugby, rifle shooting (College Blue 1957/58) and rowing, and was President of the Students’ Club in 1958. Following his marriage in August 1959 to his long-time sweetheart, Joyce – theirs was the first wedding in the College Chapel – he was appointed Vice Principal.
Bob’s connection with the College was severed in 1960 when he was transferred to Sydney. He spent the next 15 years in light manufacturing organisations in Lae (New Guinea), Sydney and Orange before returning to Brisbane as a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at QIT (now QUT).
This return to Brisbane afforded an opportunity to reconnect with Emmanuel, and over the years from 1987 to 2000 he served on the Emmanuel College Council, being Recorder for much of this time, and Chair of Council from 1998 to 2000.
Since retiring in 2006 from the position of Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering, QUT, Bob now enjoys a busy and fulfilling life, combining interests in video making, computing, and membership of Probus Clubs, with overseas and local travel.
