Mr Andrew McCabe

A familiar face around College since 1998 when he first resided at Emmanuel, Andrew McCabe is perhaps best known in our community as the founding Pipe Major of the University of Queensland Pipe Band at Emmanuel College, a position he fulfilled until 2016. While resident at Emmanuel from 1998–2006, he also filled the roles of Resident Tutor, Senior Resident Assistant and Senior Residential Fellow.

In 1988 he served six months with the 8/9 RAR Pipes and Drum at Enoggera in Brisbane and three years, from 1989-1991, with the 41 RNSWR Army Reserve and Australian National University Coy, Sydney University Regiment. Prior to studying for his Bachelor of Laws at The University of Queensland, Andrew gained a BA from the ANU in Canberra and a Graduate Diploma of Education from the University of Southern Queensland.

Andrew was admitted to practice as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2003 and to the register of the High Court of Australia in 2009. Since 2010, Andrew has been Senior Principal Lawyer at Crown Law and has been seconded to the Queensland Health Legal Unit and the Independent Advisory Panel of the Crime and Misconduct Act Review.
