Major General Peter Arnison AC

Major General (Retired) Peter Arnison AC CVO served for 37 years in the Australian Regular Army in a variety of Infantry command appointments, retiring as Land Commander, Australia, in June 1996. He was appointed as Queensland’s 23rd Governor, serving from July 1997 to July 2003 and was elected Chancellor of Queensland University of Technology from September 2004 to September 2012.

Peter is currently serving as a Director of Energex Limited, Chairman of the Brisbane Airport Community Aviation Consultation Group and on the Board of the Australian Multicultural Foundation.

He is a graduate of The University of Queensland and the Royal College of Defence Studies, United Kingdom, and received honorary doctorates from The University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, Griffith University, The University of Southern Queensland and Southern Cross University.

He was appointed an Officer in the Order of Australia in 1992 for service to the Australian Army, a Companion in the Order of Australia in 2001 for service to Queensland and a Commander in the Royal Victorian Order, by Her Majesty the Queen, in 2002.
