Part of our mission at Emmanuel College is to foster a strong academic community which engages independently and collaboratively with current research and scholarship.
Senior Common Room
Comprising Emmanuel College academic staff and postgraduate students, the Senior Common Room (SCR) is a research group providing a collegial, interdisciplinary space for emerging and experienced academics to share their research and provide support and feedback for their academic colleagues. Members are invited to give presentations on their research, often in preparation for academic conferences. The SCR promotes scholarly discussion with the view to producing highly relevant and provocative publications that contribute to wider academic discourses. The SCR is currently producing an edited collection in the interdisciplinary field of Medical Humanities titled Medicine and What it Means to be Human. This collection, generated by the research of our members, includes essays from fields as diverse as psychiatry, philosophy, music, economics, legal studies, linguistics, literary studies and art history.
“Senior Common Room is a great opportunity for all Emmanuel College tutors to hear about what each other is working on and to get a sense for different fields. The SCR sessions I attended were incredibly valuable in terms of the knowledge I gained, some of which I looked into further and implemented in my professional position.”
