About this scholarship

This scholarship is offered in conjunction with The Society of St Andrew of Scotland (Queensland) Limited and is awarded to a student who has been accepted into any degree at The University of Queensland who shows sound academic ability and superior talent as a piper. Applicants who have been accepted into other Queensland universities may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The College piper would be expected to perform as a soloist for certain Emmanuel College events throughout the year. The recipient will be a consistent performer and a registered competitive member with the Emmanuel College Highlanders at The University of Queensland Pipe Band and contribute to the life of the College.

The Emmanuel College Highlanders pipe band is an outstanding standard bearer for Emmanuel College and UQ, both locally and in the wider community. The band proudly represents the College and the University in major events, such as Anzac Day, St Patrick’s Day, and Tartan Day. The band competes in interstate and national competitions and enjoys regular appearances at the Woodford Folk Festival and the Australian Celtic Festival.

The recipient must be accepted as a student at UQ with good academic potential or ability. They must include a pipe band resume and piping reference.
